Is Air Duct Cleaning Worth It? An Honest Answer

Duct cleaning has a reputation problem, earned by companies that advertise $59 whole-house specials and then vacuum three vents. Done properly, it makes a real difference — in specific situations.

Is Air Duct Cleaning Worth It? An Honest Answer

When it is genuinely worth it

  • You just bought the house. You're breathing someone else's pets, smoke, and dust until the ducts are cleaned.
  • New construction or a renovation. Drywall dust settles in ductwork and keeps blowing out for years.
  • Pets or allergies. Dander and pollen accumulate in returns and recirculate constantly.
  • Visible debris or dust that returns immediately after you clean the house.

When it is not

If your system is only a few years old, the house has no pets or smokers, and you change filters on schedule, you can often wait. We'll tell you that on the phone rather than sell you a service you don't need yet.

What a real duct cleaning includes

Supply runs, return runs, and the main trunk lines — not just the vents you can see. Covers come off, get cleaned, and go back on. We photograph before and after so you can see what actually came out of your system.

"They cleaned my air ducts of my new house and then did the carpets for a rental clean out. Very friendly and professional."

Elizabeth McDowell, Google Review

How to judge the work

Ask for photographs. Any company that won't show you the inside of your own ductwork before and after either didn't clean it or doesn't want you to see how little changed.

Bundle duct cleaning with carpet in one visit and save on both.

Frequently asked questions

How often should air ducts be cleaned?

Every three to five years for most homes; sooner with pets, smokers, allergies, or after renovation work.

How long does it take?

Two to four hours for most homes, depending on the size of the system and the number of vents.

Can you sanitize the ducts afterwards?

Yes — an antimicrobial treatment is available and worth it for allergy households or systems with a moisture history.
